Curie has such a sweet personality, you wouldn’t know that she had such a traumatic start. She was found chained outside with overgrown nails and a skeletal frame. She was brought to impound and eventually tagged as a rescue-only dog, meaning she was at risk for being euthanized through no fault of her own. She had demonstrated some behaviors that were to be expected from a previously starving and neglected dog, so Unbreakabull got her out and into a board and train situation. The first portion was mainly to build up her health again, then additional training began. She initially showed some
issues with resource guarding, but those have not shown themselves while fostering and she is very polite while eating, even if her cat friend walks by.
Once Curie was finally healthy and trained enough to transition to our house for fostering, we brought her home to decompress. We found that she likes her big kennel and she’ll even go lay in it when she’s not on her raised bed. She has no problem sleeping in it overnight or when we’re at work.
Curie loves going for walks! Sometimes she will pull so she uses a gentle leader to walk nicely. She has taken a particular interest in squirrels and rabbits! Curie is so smart — she’s e-collar trained and knows a ton of cool tricks from her training like sit, shake, place and stay. A regular schedule for potty visits is important, as she is still figuring out how to tell us she has to go out. Shes’s incredibly food motivated and takes to training pretty quickly! She would love to learn more tricks and expand her knowledge.
Curie has been coexisting with an elderly dog-aware cat, but doesn’t seem to have all the right dog moves around other dogs. She appears to want to dominate, and for her safety a home for just her as the only dog would be preferable. Our cat prefers to use Curie for her body heat by laying near her – and that works out just fine! So if you have a dog-savvy cat, Curie might be the dog you are looking for!
She absolutely loves having her ears and head rubbed, and will lean into you to let you know how much it is appreciated. She will be an excellent binge-watching buddy – as long as you are petting her! She can’t always contain her excitement when meeting new people and may jump, but a stern off or down works! For that reason, a home with small children is not recommended.
Curie has exceeded our expectations on every point with how sweet and trusting she is after her ordeals. She will be a joy to her forever home!
